The Antique Dealer
Biennial Event has become a major happening
a confirmation of Monaco’s cultural scope
and now part of the dynamic of the European art market
attracting worldwide connoisseurs
Organized with the help of la Direction du Tourisme et des Congrès,
la Société des Bains de Mer, le Centre de Press
la Direction des Affaires Culturelles
THE 16th MONACO ANTIQUE
DEALER BIENNIAL EVENT
is a happening that passionately cultivates the exceptional
They are 30 internationally renowned professionals, major signatures
in antiques and decorative arts, from historic and modern painting
and from the haute jewelry trade to present, in the heart of the
Principality, treasures found in the four corners of the world.
By its decidedly selective nature, this exhibit
demonstrates that a work of art cannot exist alone, that it requires
the knowledge of a dealer, the understanding of the public and an
environment that promotes its presentation.
As such, the Biennial Event finds a natural
home in Monaco. Inheritor of a millennial artistic tradition, the
Principality remains more than ever a propitious place for the advancement
of the arts and creation.
Founded in 1975 thanks to an original idea of
Mario Bellini, Jacques Perrin and Maurice Segoura, the Antique Dealer,
Jewelry and Art Gallery Biennial Event was one of the first happenings
to allow the Prinicipality to be part of the international art market
circuit.
The concept of the event was then clearly stated:
a small number of exhibitors, rigorously chosen according to the
diversity of their special fields and welcoming, at an exceptional
site, collectors from the whole world.
Still today, this 15th session of the Monaco
Biennial Event, presided by Jacques Perrin, remains coherent with
the exhibit’s founding principles: top quality exhibitors
and merchandise, diversity of artistic expressions represented,
sobriety regarding decors and lighting.
In an intimate atmosphere, the visitor can
give way to contemplation of exhibited works: paintings and drawings
by French, Italian and Flemish masters, modern and contemporary
paintings, furniture and decorative arts of past centuries, carpets
and tapestries, sculpture, jewelry of yesteryear and contemporary
creations…The only common denominator among these items remains
universal beauty.
Presented in the “art deco” framework
of the Sporting Club, where the charm of Monegasque architectural
tradition still prevails, the Biennial Event welcomes about 15 to
20 000 visitors, mainly American, French, Swiss, Italian, English,
Russian or Middle Eastern. Among them are many prestigious guests,
as in 2001, to cite just a few: Andy Wong, Ivana Trump, Roger Moore,
Dewi Soekarno or Arielle Dombasle, who unanimously applauded the
beauty of the works on display.
This year, seven new exhibitors, will join
the event: The Chinese Porcelain Company, New York antique dealer
specialized in Asian arts, Dr Riedl, antique painting dealer from
Munich, Sophie Scheidecker Fine Art, modern and Impressionist painting
specialist established in New York, Pierre de Souzy, Parisian gallery
owner specialized in 19th century painting and sculpture, jewellers
Moussaieff and Jeremy Morris both from London, as well as Alexandra
Reza, established in Paris and in Monaco, who will exhibit alongside
the “customary” participants of the Biennial Event:
antique dealers Maurice Segoura, Philippe Perrin, Luigi Bellini,
Galerie Flore, Adriano Ribolzi, Gismondi-Pastor, Anne-Marie Monin,
Galerie Sapjo, Galerie Renard & Fils, the Saint Honoré
art galleries, Berko Fine Art Painting, Fabien Boulakia, Toninelli
Arte Moderna, Fabrizio Moretti, Alexia Goethe Fine Art and Graff
and Fred, representatives of the haute jewelry trade.
Curios cabinet of many facets, an encounter
with some unforgettable masterpieces, the 16th Monaco Biennial Event
is one of the highlights of the Monegasque summer 2005 season and
confirms, thanks to its prestige, that Monaco is a must for art
lovers.
